Mirrors starts with the regency logo showing and with it being a faded blue it seems slightly mysterious and creepy especially when while this shows you can hear a man running as a sound bridge then shows him running. You then see a man running which adds suspense to the movie. Then when he stops at the gate it’s used a medium close up and tracking shot to highlight his emotion and fear in his face. The film then jump to a train moving past and the man running again. With the location now fully shown the audience will know something is about to happen with it being a quiet isolated dark location. Again when the man is running it uses a close up to highlight his emotions in his face and this become apparent to be fear when the man looks up to see a shiny surface above him, meaning to be some reference to the film title, Mirrors. After breaking into the locker room the lights start to flicker off and on, giving a creepy atmosphere for the audience who will expect something to happen in this scene, this is promised with the slow creek of the lockers opening to reveal mirrors. The noise of this squeak creates a huge amount of tension for the audience and the character himself. As the man slowly walks towards the biggest mirror in front of him earey music plays in the background creating more tension for the audience and the lights flicker on and off. An extreme close up is used to make the man’s face cover the mirror and to highlight his complete fear over this mirror cracking in front of him and in seeing this gives the audience a huge sense of dread. After the mirror breaks some silence is present for a second creating much tension for both the character and the audience. So far the opening has built up dread within the audience. When the man looks in the mirrors and bends down to pick up the glass the man is shown in the mirror as still standing with a very grim face, this is a very creepy and for some people disturbing scene. A close up of the piece of broken mirror gives the audience an idea of what is about to happen as the mirrored image slits his throat causing the real life’s man’s throat to cut open creating a very bloody end for this character. The credits then begin to play with mirrored effects on them with a creepy tune playing in the background revealing mirrored images of a major town in the background giving the audience a hint about what this movie is about. The opening sequence of this film reveals some horrific scenes and some rather creepy ones that build up sus pence within the audience creating the opening for a very good horror movie.
